We want to make a change!
The Possible Life Center was founded in 2015 when a group of disabled people decided that they need to change their former lives. Suffering from a lack of support from the government, life was very hard, as they could not find work and lived in a home that was not suitable for a person with a disability. Uneven grounds or unreachable sinks are just two of many problems they had to deal with in their daily life.
Some of the group have known each other since school and the others joined in via Facebook. In 2015 they asked to build a home in Bhaktapur district but the living conditions there were really bad, especially for disabled people, so that they moved to a more developed place in Kathmandu.
The group rented a piece of land and still the government did not support them, so they were forced to collect and borrow money from relatives and neighbors to build their own home. Friends and families offered their help to build six small rooms and one bathroom. Of course the rooms are really basic, and not suitable for the extreme weather conditions in Nepal, but a better life was possible now!
So they gave their new home the name ‘Possible Life Center’ to show themselves and others that life with a disability is definitely possible! Today 11 people are living in the Possible Life Center: four couples and three children. Supporting each other, living and working together is the essence of the group, which became a big family over the years.
